Pluton Svea Internationalen [new] Jun 2026

The story of Pluton Svea begins in Eskilstuna, Sweden, in the early 1990s. Led by Jocke Karlsson, the band quickly rose to the forefront of the Viking Rock and RAC (Rock Against Communism) genres. While many bands in this niche focused solely on local Swedish concerns, Pluton Svea always had an eye on the international stage. Their music was characterized by aggressive riffs, melodic choruses, and lyrics that blended historical Norse mythology with contemporary political grievances.

The Sveconorwegian orogeny (c. 1140–960 Ma) represents a major Grenvillian-age collisional belt in southwestern Fennoscandia. While numerous plutons (e.g., Bohus, Uddevalla) are known, the proposed “Pluton Svea Internationalen” — a term introduced here as a conceptual composite — encapsulates the geochemical diversity and geodynamic transition from arc magmatism to post-collisional extension. This paper synthesizes U-Pb zircon geochronology, Lu-Hf isotopes, and whole-rock geochemistry from analogous plutons (e.g., the Åmål, Horred, and Tjörn units) to reconstruct the magmatic evolution of a hypothetical “type pluton.” We propose that the Svea Internationalen magmatic suite records (1) early subduction-related calc-alkaline signatures (c. 1.05 Ga), (2) a switch to A-type granitoids during slab breakoff (c. 0.98 Ga), and (3) late-stage hydrothermal systems that formed Fe-oxide-Cu-Au mineralization. The “Internationalen” suffix highlights the multinational research effort (Sweden, Norway, Germany, Canada) required to resolve the orogen’s evolution. Pluton Svea Internationalen

The term “pluton” derives from Greek plouton (god of the underworld), but in modern petrology, it describes a discordant igneous intrusion. The Sveconorwegian Province (Fig. 1) hosts >200 plutons, yet no single body bears the name “Svea Internationalen.” We argue that the name is a —a composite representing international collaboration on Swedish (Svea) basement rocks. The story of Pluton Svea begins in Eskilstuna,

However, the name strongly suggests a conflation of two distinct, well-documented terms: Their music was characterized by aggressive riffs, melodic
