Narratively, the Battle of Attica serves an interesting purpose. In the main console trilogy, Kratos is often driven by personal vengeance. He is a man consumed by rage, killing gods because they wronged him. However, in this opening chapter, Kratos is acting as a defender of the city. He is fighting to repel the Persian invasion and kill the Basilisk to save the populace.

Unlike later entries where Kratos fights gods, the Battle of Attica pits him against (Persians). This emphasizes his god-like superiority. The Persians’ weapons, armor, and siege engines are utterly useless against the Ghost of Sparta.
