To understand why "REC 2007" is a searched term, one must understand the technology. In the mid-2000s, recording gameplay footage or screen activity was a Herculean task. Fraps was the dominant software, but it produced massive, uncompressed AVI files that could choke a hard drive in minutes. Bandicam wouldn't arrive until a few years later, and OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) was a distant dream.
