Do not let the key do the thinking for you. Instead, use the 5-step method described above: attempt, check, analyze, retro-attempt, and log. Combine the key with active reading strategies and vocabulary building.
A student who merely copies answers from an answer key will fail the ELS final reading exam—because the real test uses unseen passages. In contrast, a student who uses the answer key to study their mistakes will see rapid improvement in skimming, scanning, and inference skills.
