Remember: Always verify your sources, check MD5 hashes, and keep a backup of your BIOS folder. Once installed correctly, you’ll never see the dreaded “Missing BIOS” warning again.
When you update OpenEmu, your BIOS folder remains untouched. However, new cores may demand new BIOS files. After every update, check the Cores tab for new warnings.
A BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is the firmware that tells the emulator how to act like the original console hardware. A "pack" is a pre-organized collection of these files, typically matched to OpenEmu's specific requirements, such as correct filenames and MD5 checksums.
For an official list of required BIOS filenames and their checksums, see the OpenEmu GitHub Wiki (look for “BIOS Files” section).
Using a hardware tool like an or Retrode , you can dump the BIOS chip from your original PlayStation, Sega CD, or Neo Geo console. This is 100% legal but requires technical skill.
