Reading the Aerostar 600 POH cover to cover is a rite of passage. Doing so reveals an airplane that is honest about its vices and magnificent in its virtues. It tells you: If you are looking for a specific copy
Here are the specifications of the Aerostar 600:
Unlike a Seneca or Baron, the Aerostar is slippery. It does not slow down easily. The POH dedicates significant sections to descent planning and speed reduction . The famous "Aerostar lean" (the aircraft sitting nose-low on the ramp) translates to a nose-low attitude in cruise. If you pull the throttles back without planning, you will accelerate, not decelerate. The POH’s performance charts emphasize lead time for configuration changes—a concept less critical in draggier airframes.
Many twins lower the gear as a drag device. The Aerostar 600 POH explicitly prohibits lowering gear above Vlo (approx 150 KIAS) because the gear doors can be torn off. Furthermore, lowering the gear at high speed creates pitch down (because the gear extends ahead of the CG). If you are slow and high, the POH advises a slip, not gear.
