In 2017, Microsoft announced that it would be discontinuing Windows Movie Maker, along with another popular software, Windows Photo Viewer. The decision was reportedly made to focus on more modern and feature-rich video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.

Note: The 2012 version cannot directly export to YouTube anymore (API changed), but you can save the file locally and upload manually.
