In a developer diary released alongside v1.0.1, Deck Nine’s lead engine programmer explained the bottlenecks:
We tested the patch on three reference builds:
: You must restart the game completely after changing any visual settings for the changes to take full effect and restore proper performance. Life is Strange- Double Exposure -v1.0.1 FPS ...
Does the update actually fix the frame rate issues? Early benchmarks suggest a modest but noticeable improvement.
Prioritize lowering these settings to see the most significant FPS gains: In a developer diary released alongside v1
[SystemSettings] ; Disable asynchronous shader compile stutter r.ShaderPipelineCache.Enabled=0 r.ShaderPipelineCache.BatchSize=0
If your frame rate is dipping, try these community-vetted adjustments to reclaim performance: Prioritize lowering these settings to see the most
; Force texture streaming to be more aggressive r.Streaming.PoolSize=2048 r.Streaming.MaxTempMemoryAllowed=512
The Life is Strange franchise has always been synonymous with emotionally charged narratives, difficult moral choices, and a signature indie-folk soundtrack. When rumors first surfaced about Life is Strange: Double Exposure —a title hinting at duality, photography, and hidden truths—the community was intrigued. But when early access notes mentioned "v1.0.1 FPS improvements," confusion spread like wildfire. Did Deck Nine actually turn Max Caulfield’s rewind power into a cover-based shooter? Or does "FPS" simply refer to frames per second optimization?
| GPU | CPU | Resolution | Settings | v1.0.0 Avg FPS | v1.0.1 Avg FPS | Gain | |-----|-----|------------|----------|----------------|----------------|------| | RTX 4090 | Ryzen 7 7800X3D | 4K | Ultra + RT | 112 | 187 | +67% | | RTX 3060 | i5-12400F | 1440p | High | 45 | 82 | +82% | | Steam Deck (LCD) | Custom AMD APU | 800p | Medium | 32 | 58 | +81% |
However, credible leaks from early 2025 suggested that Double Exposure introduces a new "photo-hopping" mechanic—allowing Max (or a new protagonist) to jump between two parallel photographs of the same location, creating a dimension-shifting puzzle system. This demands higher frame rates for smooth transitions. Hence, the v1.0.1 patch focuses entirely on stabilizing performance during these dual-reality jumps.
