Dashrath Manjhi was born on January 14, 1934, in a small village called Pipuliya, in the state of Bihar, India. His early life was marked by hardship and struggle, much like the rugged terrain of the mountains he would later attempt to conquer. Manjhi's determination and resilience were forged in the fire of adversity, qualities that would define his later years.

Manjhi's claim to fame came when he single-handedly carved a path through a mountain in the Bihar state of India. The mountain, which was part of the Aravali range, stood between his village and a nearby town, causing significant travel inconvenience for the residents. Traditional routes required people to go around the mountain, adding days to their journey. Manjhi, driven by his love for his family and community, decided to take on the seemingly impossible task of cutting through the mountain.
