The origins of Mushoku Tensei are humble. It began as a user-submitted web novel on the platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō in 2012. Unlike many traditional publishers who focus on short, punchy stories, the web novel format allowed Rifujin na Magonote to write a decades-spanning biography of a single character. The story concluded in 2015, but its popularity skyrocketed, leading to a light novel adaptation with illustrations by Shirotaka, and eventually, a manga and a high-budget anime adaptation by Studio Bind.
