The genius of "See You In Your Dreams" is the lack of special effects. There are no swirling vortexes or morphing faces. The surrealism comes from . One moment Ray is beating a man; the next, he is eating a quiet dinner with his daughter, but the dinner table is in the middle of a desert highway.
The episode's use of music and sound design also adds to the tension, creating a sense of unease and foreboding that permeates the narrative.
