
تَغْرُو الْعُقُولُ بِأَنَّ الْحُسْنَ مِنْ شِيَمِ ** لاَ وَالَّذِي خَلَقَ الأَفْلاَكَ وَالْعَدَمِ لَمَّا بَدَا الْحَقُّ فِي الْخَلْقِ عَلَى سَنَنِ ** حَتَّى ظَنُّوا بِهِ خَلْقًا مِنَ الصَّنَمِ وَاشْتَدَّ أَمْرُ بَنِي الدُّنْيَا وَأَجْمَعُوا ** كَيْدًا لَهُ فَأَبَى الْجَبَّارُ مَا أَرَمُوا يَا حَبَّذَا رَسُولُ اللهِ حَيْثُ سَرَى ** بِالْخَيْرِ يَتْلُو كِتَابًا غَيْرَ مُنْعَدِمِ وَأَنْزَلَتْ سُوَرَ الْقُرْآنِ مُعْجِزَةً ** تُرِيكَ فِي الصَّحْفِ مَا قَدْ شَاءَ مِنْ حِكَمِ كَفَاهُ بِالْعِلْمِ فِي الأُمِّيِّ مُعْجِزَةً ** فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَالتَّعْلِيمِ فِي الْأُمَمِ أَلْقَى عَلَيْهِ الْوَحْيَ وَهْوَ مُنْفَرِدٌ ** لَمْ يَكُ يَتْلُو كِتَابًا قَبْلَهُ وَلَمِ هَذَا الْإِمَامُ وَكُلُّ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ لَهُ ** فَضْلٌ وَفَضْلُكَ فَضْلٌ غَيْرُ مُنْسَجِمِ

In his despair, he composed the Qasida Burda as an ode of intercession to the Prophet. That night, he dreamed of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who touched his face and draped his own mantle (burda) over him. Upon waking, al-Busiri was miraculously healed. The poem quickly spread across the Muslim world, earning its name Burda —the "Mantle" poem.
