Clone cables often use fake FTDI chips. Starting around 2016, official FTDI drivers "brick" fake chips by setting their USB PID/VID to zero. If your clone worked on Windows 7 but fails on Windows 10/11 with "Device Descriptor Request Failed," you are a victim of the FTDI driver anti-clone measure.
