For nearly a decade (2010–2020), Galactic Battlegrounds faded into abandonware. The community sites went quiet. The game didn't work well on Windows 10 without tinkering. Then, in 2019, Disney and Aspyr Media released on Steam and GOG. It worked out of the box, included high-resolution support, and most importantly, re-opened the floodgates.

Arguably the most famous campaign ever made for GBG. This sprawling, 12-scenario epic bridged Episode II and III , focusing on the clone troopers of the 501st Legion. You fought alongside Anakin and Ahsoka (pre- Clone Wars show, using clever reskins). The final mission, "Order 66," forced you, as the player, to march on the Jedi Temple. It ended with a heartbreaking trigger where your former Jedi allies turned into hostile enemies. It remains a masterpiece of scenario design. It uses a "Trigger" system similar to Age
As of late 2024, the Expanding Fronts team is working on version 2.0, which promises to add space-to-ground transition missions (simulated via triggers, of course) and a more robust AI scripting language for campaigns. There is even a fan project attempting to port the entire Age of Kings trigger system into GBG, allowing for randomized resource spawns and true fog-of-war recon.
