Unlike the "English as a First Language" qualification, which focuses heavily on literary analysis and creative writing, the ESL syllabus is pragmatic. It evaluates a student's ability to understand general information, specific details, and the writer’s opinion, as well as their capacity to communicate clearly in both formal and informal contexts.
