PFTrack v4.0 brought the flexibility of node graphs to camera tracking. This allowed for non-destructive workflows. An artist could try multiple different solving methods—automatic, manual, or geometry-based—and branch them off the main tree to compare results without losing previous work.
Released by in late 2007, PFTrack v4.0 was a landmark update to the industry-standard matchmoving and camera tracking software. This version transitioned the tool into a more comprehensive "image-based modeling" suite, moving beyond simple camera solves to include advanced 3D scene reconstruction tools. Prior to v4.0, matchmoving (the art of extracting camera movement from footage) was often a painful, technical bottleneck. Artists struggled with software that offered binary choices: automatic tracking or manual tracking. Automatic solutions were often "black boxes"—if they worked, great; if they didn't, the artist was left with few tools to fix the problem. Manual tracking was time-consuming and required an immense amount of patience. PFTrack v4
