Hear me out. While the camera obviously ogles the actors, Fiber Star also lampoons the sentai genre’s male gaze. The male characters (there are two: a useless cop and Kon-chan the rice ball) are completely incompetent. Released in the winter of 2015, Bakunyu Sentai Fiber Star Part 1 sold only 2,000 copies. Its sequel, Part 2: The Cholesterol Strikes Back , was greenlit but reportedly lost its funding when the director spent the budget on real protein powder for the cast. As of 2025, Part 2 remains unreleased, ending the series on a cruel cliffhanger.
