The engine cranks but won't fire because it can't hit the ~250 bar required for idling.
The rubber damper in the crankshaft pulley (vibration damper) separates. You will hear a knocking/rattling noise at idle that disappears when you rev the engine. The pulley may visibly wobble. The fix: Replace the pulley immediately. If it fails completely, it can shred the auxiliary belt and whip it into the timing belt cover.
The most damaging issue for the DF137 concerns the turbocharger lubrication system. Renault fitted the 1.5 dCi with a very narrow oil feed pipe to the turbo. While this was sufficient for lubrication, it was prone to clogging with carbon sludge if the oil was not changed frequently or if low-quality oil was used.
However, note:
A "Check Injection" message or flashing "Stop" and "ECU" lights on your dashboard. Renault DF137 Error: Q&A for Renault 1.5 dCi, Clio, Kangoo
