A container-based approach to boot a full Android system on regular GNU/Linux systems running Wayland based desktop environments.
Waydroid uses Linux namespaces (user, pid, uts, net, mount, ipc) to run a full Android system in a container and provide Android applications on any GNU/Linux-based platform (arm, arm64, x86, x86_64). The Android system inside the container has direct access to needed hardware through LXC and the binder interface.
The Project is completely free and open-source, currently our repo is hosted on Github.
Waydroid integrated with Linux adding the Android apps to your linux applications folder.
Waydroid expands on Android freeform window definition, adding a number of features.
For gaming and full screen entertainment, Waydroid can also be run to show the full Android UI.

| Feature | What It Does | Why It Matters | |---------|--------------|----------------| | | Bypasses generic scanner drivers and talks directly to the hardware. | Allows you to unlock higher resolutions, bit depths, and color modes that the vendor’s driver may hide. | | Batch Scanning & Automation | Queue up dozens/hundreds of pages, set up “auto‑crop,” “auto‑deskew,” and custom naming conventions. | Great for digitizing large archives (photos, negatives, documents) quickly. | | Advanced Color Management | 16‑bit per channel scanning, custom ICC profiles, LUTs, and built‑in color correction tools. | Essential for photographers and archivists who need accurate color reproduction. | | Film & Slide Support | Dedicated “Film” mode with multi‑exposure, IR cleaning, and dust removal (if the scanner supports IR). | Turns a regular flat‑bed scanner into a decent film digitizer. | | Output Flexibility | Save to JPEG, TIFF, PNG, PDF, multi‑page PDF, Photoshop PSD, or even directly to an FTP server. | Fits into most workflows, from personal photo archives to professional publishing pipelines. | | Multi‑Platform | Windows 7‑11 (both 32‑ and 64‑bit) and macOS 10.13+ (Intel & Apple Silicon). | Works on most modern workstations. | | Built‑In OCR (via add‑on) | Optional OCR module for turning scanned text into searchable PDFs. | Adds value for document‑management use cases. |
