The film tackles one of the most well-documented supernatural cases in British history: The Enfield Poltergeist. In 1977, single mother Peggy Hodgson and her four children claimed a violent entity was terrorizing their council house in North London.
Take the "Shelley’s Tent" scene. Young Janet is asleep in a back room; the camera slowly pans down a dark hallway. We see the door to the tent. Nothing happens. The camera pulls back, then pushes in. Still nothing. Just as your brain relaxes, the tent inflates violently, and the camera whips around to reveal a shadow standing where there was none. It is a perfect magic trick of timing.
